Weddings in Cheltenham
This unique town, situated on the edge of the Cotswolds with its beautiful countryside, glorious gardens, and endless attractions make it the ideal location for a prefect wedding.
The accidental discovery of a mineral water spring transformed Cheltenham into the popular spa town it is today. The therapeutic water can be sampled at a few places throughout the town but mainly at the Pittville pump room overlooking lovely gardens and lakes.
Cheltenham has a worldwide reputation for its major festival and events program which run all year long. The International Festival of Music and The Gold Cup National Hunt attract visitors from the four corners of the earth.
The wide tree lined avenue of The Promenade leading out of the city centre is said to be the most beautiful street in the country with the wonderful Neptune Fountain, modelled on the Fontana di Trevi in Rome.
Places of interest include Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum with a much admired collection of Arts and Crafts and The Holst Birthplace Museum which portrays the life of the musician and composer of the Planets Suit where you can listen to his music and see his original piano. The Parish Church, St Mary’s, is Cheltenham’s oldest building with real antiquity.
Nevertheless the town doesn’t dwell in the past; there are contemporary developments too, including The Wishing Fish Clock in the Regent Arcade and the Elephant Murals.
Cheltenham has been featured in many films including Pride and Prejudice, House of Elliot and Vanity Fair. Amongst the numerous famous visitors is Charles Dickens. He wrote of the town: “Rarely have I seen such a place that so attracted my fancy”
This peaceful town creates a gorgeous setting in which you can exchange your wedding vows; a visit here will make it clear what Dickens was talking about!
